CHINESE-JAPANESE-KOREAN NEWS

National CJK Service

Steady progress is being made towards the addition of records from the National Library of Korea (NLK). Work by Wan Wong in the CJK team and Peter Davy of the National Library's Systems Branch identified a number of difficulties with the test data supplied by NLK, and NLK has agreed to amend their programs to supply data in a more useful format. Test data will now be submitted to Innovative Interfaces, the CJK database sofware suppliers, to allow them to build a load table for the Korean data.

A wonderful effort by staff of the CJK section has seen the number of duplicate records in the database reduced by 30,000 over the last six months.

Means of linking the CJK database to the Kinetica system [the National Library of Australia's new system, to be introduced in the first quarter of 1998] are being explored in the Library, and information about progress so far on this issue will be provided at a CJK users' meeting being held in conjunction with the annual ABN/Kinetica Users' Meeting.
