The CSGSS is a week-long program of intensive research activities bringing together the ANU academics and researchers, PhD and research masters students engaged in Chinese Studies from around Australia. During the week, Students had opportunities to present their research report and there were feedback and discussions from the peer group and academics. Roundtable discussions covered researching China, publishing, fieldwork in China and future Chinese Studies in Australia. Wan Wong and Renata Obsorne from National Library and ANU Library respectively provided information sessions for the postgraduates. Being a librarian, I was grateful to have such a wonderful time to be with the Chinese Studies postgraduates from different places of Australia, sharing their research experiences, learning their research strategies and methodologies. I enjoyed the CSGSS very much and would like to encourage colleagues in other East Asian libraries to participate in the CSGSS in the future. Asian Libraries in Melbourne (ALIM) new brochure launchMelbourne Asian Research Libraries Consortium has changed its name to Asian Libraries in Melbourne (ALIM) in 2004. The Chinese Studies Research Group (CSRG)The Chinese Studies Research Group (CSRG) was formed in 2004 by a group of postgraduate students and academics in the University of Melbourne who are doing research on Chinese Studies. The Group meets the first Friday of every month to discuss and share ideas and experiences relating to researching China. It also hold regular Research Days to provide Chinese Studies researchers with the opportunity to share their knowledge. In June 2005, the CSRG is hosting a pre-CSAA 2005 postgraduate forum at the University of Melbourne. The aim of the forum is to provide an opportunity for postgraduates from around Australia researching within the field of Chinese Studies to informally meet and share ideas about their research experiences. The forum will revolve around four research themes and provide 12 postgraduates with the chance to present a paper in an informal peer environment with positive feedback and discussions. Each panel will also include some of Australia’s leading academics as discussants, including: Professor Geremie Barme (ANU), Professor David Holm (Melbourne), Dr Gloria Davies (Monash), and Dr Antonia Finnane (Melbourne). The Keynote Speaker will be Dr Luigi Tomba from ANU. In addition, Professor Ellen Widmer from Wesleyan University (USA) will host a small workshop for those interested in nineteenth and early twentieth century Chinese literature.
